Bitcoin ETFs Split: Fidelity Draws $14M as Category Bleeds $82M After Warsh's Hawkish Fed Debut

June 19, 2026

Spot Bitcoin ETFs shed $82.2 million in a single session on June 17, the day after the Federal Reserve's June FOMC meeting concluded under new Chair Kevin Warsh. The headline number obscures a more telling story beneath it.

Fidelity's FBTC posted $14 million in net inflows that same day. BlackRock's IBIT added $26.61 million earlier in the week before pulling back. Morgan Stanley's MSBT also drew positive flows post-meeting. The broad category bled, but the top-tier products held conviction. That split matters.

The Catalyst: Warsh's Hawkish Dot Plot

The June meeting produced no rate change. The Fed held at 3.50-3.75%. What moved markets was the dot plot. Nine of 18 FOMC members now project at least one rate hike before year-end 2026. Eight project rates unchanged, and one projects a cut. The median dot moved to 3.8% from 3.4% in March.

Futures markets had priced in two cuts at the start of 2026. CME FedWatch now shows zero cuts priced through December. That repricing hit risk assets across the board. Bitcoin pulled back to $63,049 on June 18, down from highs above $70,000 earlier this year.

Warsh also announced task forces to overhaul Federal Reserve operations, a structural signal that the new chair is running a tighter, more institutionally disciplined Fed than his predecessor.

What the Split Demand Tells You

The $82.2M outflow headline is real. So is the FBTC and IBIT inflow data. Both can be true simultaneously, and the combination is more useful than either figure alone.

Weaker hands, likely retail and smaller institutional allocators, pulled capital after the hawkish surprise. Fidelity and BlackRock clients, predominantly sophisticated institutional buyers, added. That cohort tends to be longer-duration holders with higher conviction. When they buy into a rate-hike scare, it is not a reflexive trade.

The risk is straightforward: if the Fed follows through on even one hike in 2026, risk asset correlation re-emerges and Bitcoin will not be immune. Nine FOMC members penciling in a hike is not a certainty, but it is a material probability the market was not pricing three months ago.

Bitcoin trading near $63,000 with split ETF demand and a hawkish Fed is the setup. The next CPI print, due in July, will determine whether the dot plot translates into action.
